January Goals

Last month was the first month that I decided to start making monthly goals and I found it to be incredibly productive. Not only did it force me to think about specific improvements, it held me accountable and kept me in check. I am proud to say that almost all of the goals I set last month were completed!

In keeping with my goals, I have a cork board in my office and made a little spreadsheet that I posted on it, leaving spaces for tally marks and checks for sales, new stock, and competed goals. It became very rewarding to go to my board and add one more check or tally every time I tackled something on the list. There's something profoundly rewarding about getting to physically cross off a job completed! It turned out to be a great thing to do and I enjoy tackling a challenge with a reasonable deadline.

But this is is a new month and that means brand new goals. This month I would like to accomplish:

  • close at least 5 Sales
  • Finish 2nd Mardi Gras Scarf
  • Add at least 1 bearded beanie to Etsy store
  • Complete 1/2 of custom cardigan order
  • Add 1 featured seller a month to my blogging queue
  • Add at least 4 items to Etsy stock
  • Write blog on my new yarn storage (DIY)
My goals this month are small from a list standpoint, but the projects that I have planned this month are HUGE and time consuming so to keep it manageable and reasonable I have minimized the amount of goals. One of the biggest points of making these goals is that I set myself up for success, too much will just be stressful and disappointing.

With the new year, I know that a lot of people are becoming organized and making their own monthly or yearly goals. What's yours? I'd love to hear them!

  1. You'll have a busy month.

I'm a compulsive list writer. It helps keep me focused and on track, and I get immense satisfaction when I can cross something off my list.

  2. oh me too! i have little index cards with to do's and a to do list on my phone. my iphone note pad is FULL of notes and then I carry a notebook around in my purse specifically for my business ideas. I carry it everywhere so I can write anything I think of right away before I forget. It's so useful!

  3. No goal keeping yet, but I am inspired by reading everyone's this past week:):)

  4. Great idea. I need to have a goal list because I feel like I'm everywhere and never accomplishing anything. Thanks for the motivation.

  5. Isn't it wonderful to get things accomplished!

I used to keep a journal of things to do. I found it became daunting. So, I would tear off a small calendar page and write my "to do" list there. Then at the end of the day, throw it away. It worked so much better.

I have been finishing up little projects and using tail ends of yarn for small projects. Using up conchs that have been here way too long. Most of these little projects are Christmas items and they will be ready for craft shows in the Fall. That is ok with me to store them in zipper bags until their time.

The accomplishment I feel when I have used yet another small ball of yarn is amazingly fun!

    Have a wonderful day!

  6. I just followed your blog. I thought I was already, but now I am for sure! LOL

  7. Christie- Thanks for following! I know what you mean about the journal. I don't really put my to do list on there but lists of ideas. I have pages full of blog topics I want to touch on, I have lists on treasuries that I want to make. I either put my to do for the day on an index card or use an app on my phone. That's awesome that you are thinking so far ahead for your fall shows. I have yet to do a show for my store due to lack of stock- knitting takes SO long and I work full time still.
Amith- I totally agree with you on this. I have learned a lot and picked up some goals from other people's as inspiration. If I see that several of my fellow bloggers are making the same goals, I think that maybe that's a good one to consider or some I've seen I have never thought of but were great ideas!

  8. This is a great way to organize. I think I should follow your lead because I seem to have gotten way off track!

  9. Thanks! I try to keep my goals under control but I'll be the first to say that sometimes the days go by quickly and they get away from me!
